Brookvale Brewery BEEREX ‘Try its Sparkling Richness’ Poster

The Brookvale Brewing Co. started brewing in January 1952, and entered into an arrangement with the Union of Registered Workers’ Clubs to supply beer to member clubs. In addition, the brewery supplied licensed golf and social clubs, and sold direct to consumers in the Brookvale area. It was the brewery’s policy not to cater to the hotel trade.

According to a contemporary Sydney Morning Herald report, the Brookvale Brewery produced beer ‘of a type new to Sydney, brewed on [sic] a continental recipe, using glucose instead of sugar’. They also produced a non-alc beer called Beerex and this poster was produced for this brand.

Later, the brewery (which was often called the Union Brewery) changed over to the production of normal beer, but this didn’t help the company’s fortunes, and the last brew was on 10 July 1956.
