Tooth’s brewery Zeta-Spa mineral water Poster

John Tooth, a native of Kent, England, realised the potential for a brewery in Sydney, and in partnership with his brother-in-law, Charles Newnham, built a brewery in 1835 on a 5-acre block of land at what was then called Blackwattle Creek.

During the early part of the twentieth century the company expanded through the acquisition of many country and city breweries. Most were closed, effectively shutting out competition, but some continued brewing for a few more years. Many of the closed breweries were used as depots.

Zetz Spa Is the name given to a mineral spring situated at Ballimore, near Dubbo, and to Its water. The sprlng rises from a depth of 550ft. and is thus free from any contamination. It reaches the surface through piping, pure, effervescent, sparkling and clear, naturally aerated with Its own gas. It overflows at the rate of 2000 gallons per hour. This was one of the first mineral springs in Australia to bottle and market their waters. Tooth’s had the distribution network and  started marketing this product some time before WW1.
I have included this poster because Tooth’s brewery had their name on it. They also sold Spirits. A lot of other breweries also sold spirits.
