What a foreign beer poster in a dedicated Australian Beer poster website!!? Foreign beer posters were produced in Australia by well known breweries as they had the lion’s share of the local beer sales. In the early 19th century beer produced locally were not consistent as a product. The brewers were always fighting the weather (hot or cold) and they had no understanding of wild yeasts blowing into their vats. That is why imported beer, especially refreshing lager and ale, was the desired tipple.

Arthur Guinness started selling the dark beer Porter in 1778.  The first Guinness beers to use the term were Single Stout and Double Stout in the 1840s. Throughout the bulk of its history, Guinness produced only three variations of a single beer type: porter or single stout, double or extra and foreign stout for export.

Speakman & Co operated out of the Phoenix Brewery in Bouverie Street Carlton before moving to Madeline Street (now Swanston) around the corner. They had a contract to bottle Guinness under licence.

Our products are delivered with a tissue wrap and rolled into a secured tube or
envelope (sandwiched between cardboard stiffeners to eliminate damage). Our
postage costs are for Australian customers only, for international sales please
contact us prior to purchase to arrange a quote for delivery. We ship via Australia
Post for all our art prints. Private courier can be arranged by request.
