What a foreign beer poster in a dedicated Australian Beer poster website!!? Foreign beer posters were produced in Australia by well known breweries as they had a lion’s share the local beer market. In the early 19th century Australian made beer wasn’t a great consistent product. The brewers were always fighting the change in weather (hot or cold) and they had no understanding of wild yeasts blowing into their vats. That is why imported beer, especially refreshing lager, was the desired tipple.

Nordhausen Brewery was in Prussian Saxony. This area had become heavily industrialised in the 1860s and distilleries/breweries making alcoholic drinks from sugar beets, corn, grain, potatoes and hops were the major pillars of the economy. By the 1870’s the area was famous for its ice machines and refrigeration devices, both crucial to the mechanised brewing industry and long distance trade.
