The Walkerville Co-operative Brewing Co. Ltd was incorporated on 7 May 1898, and, shortly after, the Torrenside Brewery of Clark, Ware & Co. was purchased. The new company then closed their brewery at Walkerville, and continued to brew at the Torrenside Brewery in Winwood Street, Southwark. At that time there were five breweries in Adelaide, the Walkerville was one of the largest, and the company continued to grow and prosper.

In 1938 the business and properties of the Walkerville Brewery were acquired by the South Australian Brewing Co. Ltd. They continued brewing at the Walkerville Brewery in Winwood Street, Southwark, but used the name Nathan Brewery. By 1949 the South Australian Brewing Co. Ltd chose to use the name of Southwark Brewery.

This poster was produced in the early 1930’s and took all the cues from ‘Ballarat Bertie’ from Victoria. They were trying to engage the public with a character called Professor MYNZA (mine is a…) W.B. They milked this concept for many years but were not as successful as ‘Ballarat Bertie’.
